Nichelle Mitchem served as Executive Director of My Sister’s Place, Inc., the oldest domestic violence agency in Washington, D.C. Dedicated to actualizing, the agency’s mission of providing vital services to battered women and their children, Nichelle Mitchem made important and lasting contributions to the organization’s capacity to serve battered women and their children for more than four years. Before she joined My Sister’s Place, Inc., Nichelle Mitchem served as the Director of Operations of a new university based national initiative dedicated to disseminating knowledge about best practices in service provision to the growing number of kinship care providers from 2002 to 2005 as well as the Executive Director of Women Against Abuse, Inc. from 1999-2002. Working in the area service provision at varied nonprofit organizations throughout much of her career, Nichelle Mitchem’s expertise spans emergency shelter and transitional housing, legal services, counseling and case management, community outreach as well as education and a number of other vital supportive services. Committed to community involvement and on-going professional development, Nichelle Mitchem has served as a member of a number of associations, including the National Advisory Committee for A Better Philadelphia, Inc., the Atlanta Area Evaluation Association, the National Association of Counsel for Children, the Policy Council of Head Start Learning Tree, as well as the Coalition Against Domestic Violence in both Georgia and Pennsylvania. Nichelle Mitchem received her Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Marquette University. In addition, Nichelle Mitchem obtained her law degree from the University of Wisconsin Law School.
