John Rathauser, Ph.D. completed his graduate education in Clinical Practices of Psychotherapy and Assessment and Clinical Psychology at the California School of Professional Psychology in Los Angeles. For his dissertation, John Rathauser developed a perceptual study utilizing Rorschach inkblot tests; specifically, how variations in size impacted psychological responsiveness to stimuli. Since receiving his doctorate, John Rathauser continued his education for five years of postdoctoral studies at the Postgraduate Center for Mental Health in New York City, and later, The Institute for Relationship Therapy.
Having been licensed to practice in New Jersey, New York, and California, John Rathauser, Ph.D. is currently in private practice in Kendall Park, New Jersey, where he provides treatment for adolescents, adults, and couples. From 1994 until 2002, Dr. Rathauser was a member in training in the Montreal Core Training Group in Montreal, Canada, studying Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Therapy with Habib Davanloo, M.D., the therapy’s pioneering founder. During these eight years, John Rathauser took part in annual training sessions held in Montreal, where Dr. Davanloo trains health care professionals in the theory and application of Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Therapy.
In addition to being certified in Child Psychiatry and Analytic Group Therapy, John Rathauser, Ph.D has also trained in Imago Therapy, a type of couples therapy developed by Harville Hendrix, Ph.D. In his training with Hendrix, John Rathauser completed clinical training and supervised clinical work as well as studied the theoretical framework upon which the therapy was crafted.
