An alumnus of the Indiana University School of Law, Attorney Charles Robert Knight prosecuted a jury trial for homicide in his second year of law school. Upon graduation, Charles Robert Knight began his professional career as General Counsel for the Indiana Association of Cities and Towns, where he served as a principal lobbyist for Indiana’s mayors and developed a specialized talent for employment law. He has established two employment law litigation precedents. His Elder vs. Jeffersonville Indiana state court precedent involved a strike by 40 of the City of Jeffersonville’s 44 firemen who had crossed the Ohio River into Louisville, Kentucky to avoid service of process. Attorney Knight was hired by the City of Jeffersonville to either get the striking firemen back to work or fired. He succeeded in getting them back to work and established a streamlined injunctive process approved by the Indiana Court of Appeals while doing so. In his Perry vs. Hartz Mountain federal court precedent in which his opposing counsel was President Obama’s current White House Counsel Greg Craig, Attorney Robert Knight established the exception to the at-will discharge rule for employees who do not have employment contracts: such employees cannot be asked to violate antitrust statutory public policy as a condition of employment.
